Thoughts and Commentary on today's reading:

In today's reading, there were again many wonderful concepts to capitalize upon.

I cherished the reminder, in Luke 9, that he who saves his life will lose it, but he who loses his life for Messiah's Sake will find it. As I read that portion, I remembered Jim Elliot and Nate Saint, two of the men who were martyred by the Auca's only to have that martyrdom be the very thing that needed to happen for the salvation of those formerly savage people. What a powerful story of faith!

Missionary Jim Elliot was only 28 years old when he was killed while doing mission work in Ecuador. But his legacy has continued far beyond his lifespan. He life demonstrated what it means to lose one's life for Messiah's sake, and in so doing, to find it. Jim once said:

Then, in Psalm 8, I rejoiced to join David in praising the Almighty Name of God! In verses 1 and 9 of Psalm chapter 9, David repeated the idea that God's Name is "excellent" and above all other names. What did David see in the Names of God that made him pour forth this praise - specifically?

God's Character is found in His Names. As He reveals Himself to His people, fulfilling their needs and manifesting to them in the way in which they need Him to, He reveals different aspects of Himself. He is everything we will ever need. And we get some concept of that through His Names and Titles - all of which are manifestations of the multiple ways He blesses us. So, for just a moment, today, I thought you might be blessed (as I was) to enjoy Eric Ludy's inspiring video (11 minutes long) - He Is - which extols the Names of God. As you watch, think about Who He is to you! And join with David in praising the Almighty Name of God!
